PERSONALITY.
Karman Shepard is what the game would describe as a ‘Paragade.’ He has traits of the Renegade morality while predominately having a Paragon morality.
In simple terms, Karman tries to do the right thing but sometimes lines need to be crossed. He grew up on the streets of a big city; an orphan with no future and no chance to escape a life of gangs and crime. He learned that violence and threats were often what was needed to get something done, at least until he finally got a chance to change his life. If he stayed on the planet he’d grown up on, he’d never make anything of himself and dying alone in the streets wasn’t the future Shepard wanted. If he wanted to leave any sign behind that he’d lived he’d need to go to the stars.
When Shepard joined the Alliance Navy at eighteen he was fiery and angry and a lot more of a ‘the ends justify the means’ type of person, but military discipline and the patient mentoring of David Anderson leveled Shepard out and taught him there were other ways to handle situations than force and intimidation. Karman learned he had a knack for this newfangled ‘using your words’ thing and found doors opening up for him through diplomacy, cool-headedness, and a sheer desire to do good. Karman paved his way through the ranks with his good intentions, though life in the Milky Way and among people bigger and stronger than him taught him sometimes those ‘less appropriate’ methods were exactly what a situation needed.
By and large, Shepard is a good person who wants to help and leave the galaxy at least a little better than when he’d arrived in it, but he’s also known to have a definite end to his patience. When he feels he isn’t being listened to or the people he’s talking to aren’t seeing past their own noses, he’ll often snap back to being more rough and direct and sometimes even rude. Whatever it takes to deliver a wake up call. Sometimes, that includes his friends. Arguments often brew in the tight quarters of space, and when an even tone doesn’t cut it, pulling rank and intimidation has to. And he never apologizes for it.
Shepard makes decisions by carefully considering the outcomes that could come from it, he weighs the dangers and the potential or definite losses and then makes the choice based on what will benefit the majority. Once that even meant sacrificing the woman he had a romantic attachment to just to ensure the bomb they’d planted on the planet will go off without interference. But one thing Shepard does not do is question those choices once they’re made. He’ll stand by the outcome and own the consequences no matter what they are because, in his mind, he considered everything he could and made the best choice at that time. He can’t do anything less.
When dealing with people he’s never met, Shepard can often come off as cold or aloof or even just not listening. He doesn’t emote very much with his face, so unless he’s smiling or angry, it’s hard to tell what he’s feeling. It doesn’t help that his tone can be very neutral a lot of the time in general conversation. But he’s okay with that. Karman doesn’t get overly close to people as a rule. He lost his entire squad one by one to a horrible monster that he couldn’t fight, a lot of those people were some of his first friends. The scars of that mission on Akuze stay with him. He has nightmares, he’s terrified of Thresher Maws (the creature that attacked them), and he tries to remain as professional and unemotional as he can to keep himself and others from getting attached.
That sort of thing never works out perfectly of course, and he still found himself with his own family of universal misfits and rejects, people Shepard would readily die for at a moment’s notice. Shepard likes to earn the loyalty of his friends and crewmates, but that goes both ways as well Once Shepard is loyal to someone, he’s with them no matter what happens or what they decide. During some of his friends’ personal missions, they justified their ruthless actions in a way that Karman understood and so he did not condemn nor try to prevent those actions. Another case of ‘sometimes the good thing isn’t always the right thing.’ But even if he didn’t wholly agree with the decision, he never once questioned his crew.
Shepard isn’t a humorless or no-nonsense person, no matter how his outward appearance might say otherwise. He likes to joke and tease like anyone else and he definitely likes to indulge in the fun of the nightlife with crowds, loud music, and flashing lights. He knows how to have fun and has no problems seeking out that relaxation as long as it’s the time and place to do so. He also has a strong fondness for gaming and virtual simulations, about which he can get somewhat competitive.
Despite this desire to keep apart, he isn’t a strictly distrustful person. At least, not outwardly. He wants to trust people will make the right choices or do the right thing, but he’s seen too much bad in the world to know that’s what actually happens. So while he’ll extend a trusting hand to someone new, he’s always got his other hand on his gun, ready to shoot in defense until the person’s proven who they are. That said, if he feels perfectly comfortable in his surroundings, he’ll drop his guard a little easier.
Shepard’s goal isn’t to dominate or placate or even broker peace throughout the galaxy. It’s simply to protect both what he has and others so they can protect what they have in turn. It’s the root of his decisions, both good and ruthless, and his motivations. It’s what finally drives him to his final choice during the war with the reapers and the Control decision. He follows in the footsteps of a man he hates instead of the man he looks up to and respects all in the interest of what will protect his family and friends most effectively.

EXTRA.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS.
♠ VISUAL. About six foot even, broad and muscular. He's clearly of asian descent and clearly dies his hair the bright blonde it is. His eyes are a deep blue that border on purple.
♠ FASHION. Here is a post! But generally, he dresses like a dude, more on the practical side, though he does like a few nicer things. Leather jackets, a few pieces of jewlery, etc.
♠ DEMEANOR. Shepard is a military man and even away from the military, he acts like one. He holds himself upright and keeps his head held high no matter what. At first glance, someone would likely notice how serious he is. He isn't an emptive person, so even in conversations, his emotions tend to be more on the subtle ide of things. But he isn't unapproachable, he still greets people and acts open to those around him. He radiates a natural confidence and has the calm, gentle, demeanor of a patient leader. For the most part.
♠ AURAL. A voice clip!Generally, Shepard's voice is even and fairly nuetral, inflection and small notes of emotion tend to be the best way to read Karman by his voice.
♠ OLFACTORY. He smells tangy by and large. He likes cologne, but he has yet to find a new brand since coming to the fleet.
♠ MENTAL INFORMATION. He's generally a rather reserved person, but he has a sense of humor he likes to flex whenver he can. Unfortunately, being the literal actual last hope for the galaxy can really mess with your head and the amount of responsibility you think you have to carry at all times.
♠ MAGICAL INFORMATION. None! He doesn't have magic, just biotics, which are detailed in his abilities
PERMISSIONS.
♠ BACKTAGGING. I'll backtag until a thread reaches what feels like an end or stops 'going' somewhere, if I ever drop one of these and you want to continue it, just let me know I'll be happy to pick it back up!
♠ FOURTHWALLING. No thanks, it's not fun to find out all the loss and pain in your life is someone else's hobby.
♠ PHYSICAL AFFECTION. He'll likely tense up and, if he doesn't know you, he'll do what he can to get out of the contact as politely as possible. If he does know you, he'll be welcoming to it.
♠ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE. Shepard's been in the military for the last decade of his life, on top of that, he's part of an elite group of highly trained soldiers called N7. Before all that, he grew up on the streets and part of a gang, he knows how to fight and fight well, both dirty and fair. He's not perfect, he can definitely be bested, but he's not an easy person to fight, so it'd be something I'd want to plot out.
♠ RELATIONSHIPS. Shepard's spent 10 years trying to be the best he can be in the military and the last three years have been speant either dead or trying to save the galaxy from invading aliens everyone believes are a myth, the last year has been actually fighting those 'myths' so he hasn't felt like he's had time for relationship things. On top of that, he left his last girlfriend to die in a suicide mission and saved his best friend, so he's got some lingering issues from that. Casual sex is a possibility if he knows the person at least a little bit, but a relationship would take some time to build up.
Short answer: Sure, but buckle up, it's gonna be a long ride
